Article Title: Obama Signs Education Law Rewrite; Power Shift to States
    Article Date:12/13/2015
    Who: President Obama
    Where: Washington D.C
    When:12/10/2015
What happened:With his signature Thursday, President Barack Obama is setting the nation's public schools on a sweeping new course of accountability that will change the way teachers are evaluated and how the poorest performing schools are pushed to improve. Obama signed a bipartisan bill that easily passed the Senate on Wednesday and the House last week. Obama, referring to the bipartisan nature of the bill, called it "a Christmas miracle." The president said the law holds everyone to high standards and dedicates resources. There are risks that states may set goals too low or not act quickly enough. The nation's 50 million students in public schools will still have to take the federally mandated statewide reading and math exams in grades three to eight and once in high school. it the legislation also encourages states to set caps on the amount of time students spend on testing.
Why this event is relevant: This is relevant because the signing of this law can help with the educations of all the children in the U.S.
Reaction: I feel like the signing of this law has took a big burden off of the public schools around the U.S. This is good for the education system and all the problems it has been having and the threatening of shutting down of school districts.
Opinion: I think this a good thing because now there is no burden on the public school system the public schools can continue to educate without something holding them back.
Connection: I choose this article because with all of the different school districts threatening to shut their schools down over the few months because of lack of funds for the schooling of kids in public schools the singing of this law now prevents that and now they can get back to the teaching of the public school kids.

Though December 8 the mosque was vandalized 63 times in that year. Also they killed 130 people in Paris. They still receive death threats but no one will know what's going to happen next.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because it has something to do with our country. Even though it doesn't effect us it's hurting our people. We need to take a stand at what's going on and do something about it. This problem can unite us and make us stronger as a country.
Reaction: I don't really have a reaction towards this. why because sadly I hear a lot of stuff about this. It's crazy because this happen to often for people.
Opinion: In my opinion I think that this is non sense and that people just want to have attention by doing things like this.
Connection: I don't have a connection to this in anyway I can think of.

    Article Title:Songs of praise
    Article Date: December 19th, 2015
Who: Kim Joong Un, Xinhua, Moranbong, North Korea, China
    Where: Happened in China
    When: Very recently
What happened: A girl’s korean band was supposed to present at Beijing China, but was suddenly canceled at last minute by China’s officials. The song “ A song of a big haul of fish” represents ideology for Kim Joong Un as he came to select the members in the group as well. China delegates said the lyrics were too effusive. At the end of the music video, footage could be seen of North Korea launching misiles into the air. Raising suspicion on China’s part. This made the foreign relation even frostier.
Why this event is relevant: This is relevant because it shows the displeasure of other countries working with North Korea. It also shows the tension that N. Korea puts on surrounding countries.
Reaction: No suprise, as Chinese officials have stated why they cancelled it, due to miscommunications. N. Korea had to apologize to local officials for the sudden turn of event.
Opinion: I think this is just some of the things that China does, as stated that it’s a norm for China to cancel foreign event at last minute.
Connection: I chose this article because it relates with the world at large at the moment, with relations between countries decreasing and increasing unsteadily at any given time.

“Fired Officer's Convictions a Rare Triumph for Rape Victims”
    Dec 11, 2015,

Daniel Holtzclaw was convicted with multiple degrees of rape on December 10th. He was charged in Oklahoma where he worked as a police officer. Holtzclaw was a serial rapist. He targeted African American women in poor communities. The brave victims of his despicable had many circumstances against them. Not only were they poor and some had history of crime, but also they are accusing a white police officer. This event is relevant because cases of rape usually are not taken as serious as the crime they are. So when this case got attention of court being a rape trial and going against a police officer it shows progress of our justice system. I feel I should be overly excited that he got convicted for all his crimes, but in fact i am disappointed that everyone (especially in the black community) is not expecting of his punishment, but instead surprised. I think that shows a lot. It shows that crimes against women and the black community is so undermined that when we get the right attention it is a celebration. This is wrong. We should expect our protection and expect the justice system to be for us as they are with everyone else. I connect this with the thousands of injustices committed against African Americans, women, and others who are undermined, and the few cases that a trailed equally and fairly.

  7. Bernie Sanders campaign accesses Hillary Clinton data, gets suspended from DNC voter files - CNNPolitics.com
    http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/18/politics/bernie-sanders-campaign-dnc-suspension/index.html

    Article Date: 12-18-15
Who: Barney Sanders and Hillary's camp.
    Where: Washington D.C.
    When: 12-18-15
What happened: Sanders info was spilled out into the open. A staffer somehow got into his personal info about his plans for his campaign. Now Bernie's campaign has to be suspended to find if the staffer tried to get an advantage over him. This is not the first tone this happened to their camp. But they are trying to get to the bottom of this situation.
Why this event is relevant: This could hurt the chances of Bernie becoming the next President America or yet alone get into the final debates.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) I feel like they should tighten up their security to the data.  If Hillary has to cheat or take advantage of someone then that goes to show she may be an unfit candidate for this presidential run.
Opinion (I think..) I think they should move on from this and become more mature about these type of situations. It is more like child play because they may not even have full proof and Sanders could change what his plans are anyway.
Connection (why you chose this article) This was interesting and it showed how you can't trust no one.

Article Title:All schools shut down in Augusta County, Virginia, over Islam homework
    Article Date:December 18, 2015

    Who:Schools in Virginia

    Where:Virginia

    When:This past week.

What happened:A teacher in a Virginia school handed out a homework assignment based on the religion of islam. As a result of this alot of negative feedback came from it and officials decided to close every school as a safety precaution.
Why this event is relevant:This is relevant, number 1 because this action is causing students to miss out on an education. It is also relevant because it shows how people feel about the Islamic religion.
Reaction: I feel like this was the wrong decision to make overall. I don't think it was necessary to go and close all schools because of one teachers action. The situation should have either been dealt with between that individual school or with that one teacher.
Opinion (I think..) I think the situation could have been handled better. That one teacher could have got a consequnce. Or another option could have been to let the teacher know that it wasn't a good idea to include that in lesson plans. I say that because now students are out of school and losing time that could have been spent learning. And I also feel like the whole thing was blown out of proportion because it may have just been something that the teacher wanted to teach to the kids.
Connection (why you chose this article) I chose this article because it caught my attention and interested me.

Article Title:Congress clears bill averting shutdown
    Article Date:12/18/15
    Who:Congress,The House, Paul Ryan,Obama
    Where:Was not mentioned
    When:Friday
What:Congress accepted 1.1 trillion dollars sending package that prevented the shutdown of the government through next november. The House also approved this.Obama is going to sign this into law.Paul Ryan maintained many of the votes on this issue.
Why:This event is relevant because it deals with our government. If our government were to shutdown we would have lost order. It is needed to have a civilized society.
Reaction:I was pleased to hear that our government wasnt going to be shut down.I know how important the government is and it was great news to hear.
Opinion:In my opinion i do think the government isn't perfect but i don't think solving this issue is best by shutting it down.I think it would be better if we eliminated the people from the government that are making it look bad.

Article Title: The title of this article is , 'All Schools in Augusta County, Virginia, over Islam Homework'.
Article Date: The date of this article is Friday, December 18 2015.
Who: The people involved in this event were students, teachers, and parents in Augusta County.
Where: This took place in Augusta County, Virginia.
When: This happened on December 17, 2015.
What happened: A homework assignment from a world religions workbook was given to students. Parents saw this as an attempt to convert their children to Islam and were outraged. This caused the county to close schools as a precaution.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevent because it took place in a place of education and ignorance got the best of people's emotions.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes)I feel like all of this happened just because people are scared of islam and ignorant to it.
Opinion (I think..)This was overreacting and unnecessary. The only reason it was a big deal is because it was islamic and people have hatred toward the religion. It was a school lesson and if it was such a big deal the student could've refused to do it.
Connection (why you chose this article) I chose this article because in 9th grade world cultures we learned about islam in Saudi Arabia and we talked about the islamic statement of faith on the Saudi Flag. This is no different from what we did and they blew it out of proportion. As a muslim i'm offended that officials will close schools for just learning about islam. This is a result of ignorance and fear.
