Title: Ferguson demonstrators begin 120-mile march to Missouri state capitol.
Article Date: Saturday November 29,2014
By. Daniel Wallis and Edward McAllister
Who: Activist march from Ferguson Missouri to D.C. as a way to protest the injustice of the Mike Brown case ruling.
When: This event happened on November 29,2014.
Where : The incident was reported to take place in the United States.
What happened : After Ferguson court ruled Darren Wilson a white police officer not guilty for killing 18 year old African American Michael Brown, many people seen this as an injustice that he's is not charge for murder. People seem to see this as a racial case because of the difference of colors. On Saturday NAACP created a 120 mile to the nation's capital for a change in how the African American culture is viewed. They are marching to demand new police practices and a new Chief of Justice in Ferguson, also they want to create a law that will prevent racial profiling. This march is just like MLK famous march to help African Americans. Since Monday's court ruling there have been protest all across the nation in order to show change. Also in N.Y. they held a protest to show that they had enough of the world's injustices. N.Y. and Ferguson protest intersects each other for change in the US.
Why it's Relevant: This is relevant because it is showing how everybody in the US are fed up with the US injustices. It shows how some people use are first amendment to speak their minds about what they feel is wrong. This also symbolizes history how in 1965 MLK march from Alabama to Washington D.C for change in the African African community. 59 years later here we are marching for change yet again for African Africans.
Reaction: When I read this article it made me sick that people are living inside countries plotting to hurt their own citizens. Its sad because I know we say America symbolizes freedom but still African Americans will never be fully equal as Whites. I believe that if it was a black cop and a white boy the black officer would be lock up real fast. Also why does it seem like we are the only race that still fight for their freedom? Well because America still have racist people still living in it. You know what's funny America always trying to prevent terrorist but we have terrorist here living in our own soil.
Opinion: I think that America is one big hypocrite forget all the documents we will never be treated fairly because of the racist people and the injustices on Blacks. America needs to wake up and see what it is like to be an African American. How we now have to wake up and fear for our lives. What would you do if you seen somebody get wrongfully killed and the justice system just skims through it.
Connection: I chose this topic because this is the main issues that's on the news and is constantly happening to African Americans.

ReplyDeleteArticle title A close look at Ferguson Missouri the st.Louis suburb where Michael Brown was killed .
Article Date-. Published November 24th 2014.
Who-president Obama and Ferguson administraters.
Where- Ferguson Missouri.
When-November 24
What- basically the President of the united states spoke out and tried to get his message across explaining that what is now happening in 2014 has happened in the past and he.understand how it feels to have lack of justice because it happened before. Also he explains that putting an end to not having justice is not a one mans job and it is hard , it's.a.working progress.
This article is relevant because everyone is trying to blame President Obama saying he is not doing his job right how could he let something like this happen again it already happened with trayvon martin act. I understand why people are upset but at the same time.saying our president isn't doing his job is not making it any better. I don't think that he's in charge of the entire supreme court, this is not a one mans job and things will begin to change over time. It just won't happen over night.
Reactions-.I honesty didn't have a certain reaction to this article I just kinda agreed with what the.president was trying to say.
Opinion-.my opinion /overview on this entire case and article is he did not have to lose his life, regardless of what he did, it was other consequences he could have faced,. It was other ways around. He knew what he was doing when he pulled the trigger. Then the autopsy revealed gun wounds at the very very top of his head which indicated to me that the police officer clearly stood over him and continued to shoot. At the end it didn't have to end like that.
Connection- I connected this Mike Brown case to the Trayvon Martin case and to the emitt till case . I connected these three cases together because they hall connected with one another and various ways,.they all ended with death and all three cases had to do with races no its ands or buts about it,. And its a pattern these killing of in armed African American males are constantly happening. Trayvon Martin mother brought up a point of how if you do bad things you are suppose to learn form your mistakes then change, like being sent to jail for instances they can't be sent to jail and experience life behind bars because they're loosing their life... Its better to be sent to jail and understand why you won't want to end up behind bard again learn form your mistakes want to change, but now black men can't do that. They're just being gunned down.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title: The title of this article is “Feds urge US military members to scrub social media accounts over ISIS attack concerns.”
Article Date: This article was published on December 1st, 2014.
Who: The FBI, the military and ISIS is involved.
Where: This did not happen in a specific place.
When: This happened on Sunday.
What happened: The FBI has urged the militants to clean up their social media accounts in case they may become a target for ISIS. The FBI has information that suggests that ISIS may be spying on the military in order to attack them. They are concerned since two attacks has happened in canada so far by ISIS followers, and they do not want the US Military to be next. Also, the pentagon warned their employees of attacks too, and feels that their family members could be targeted if they aren’t.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because that means that ISIS could be planning attacks on soldiers here in the US and could potentially be a threat to normal every day citizen.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) I feel that ISIS should not still be trying to come into the US, knowing they probably will not win anything.
Opinion (I think..) I think ISIS should just stop plotting on other countries, they should be happy that they have the land they do and stop trying to come overseas.
Connection (why you chose this article) I chose this article because I connected it to how we were learning about ISIS earlier this year. I also chose this article because I connected it to how social media can really be a dangerous thing, as we see on the news and etc all the time.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title: N.Y. cop not indicted in chokehold death
Article Date: Wed December 3, 2014
Who: Former police officer Daniel Pantaleo and Eric Garner
Where: New york city
When: July 17th, 2014
What happened: In this article a New York police officer (Daniel Pantaleo) choked and killed 47 year old Eric Garner allegedly for selling Tax-free cigarettes. During the altercation Garner allegedly surrendered to the police officer and turned around when the officer proceeded to subdue Garner by placing him into a chokehold (which in illegal in New York). After pulling him to the ground Garner begins to pledge for release for the officer which the officer does not respond and Garner is eventually killed. After his death an investigation was filed on officer Pataleo and was eventually sent to court where Pataleo was put on trial for homicide but was eventually acquitted by a new york grand jury when the found him not guilty of none of the charges.
Why this event is relevant: This is relevant because in recent unfortunate events in our country many assaults on civilians by police officers have been brought to light and in the public eye the relationship between people and officers are decreasing rapidly
Reaction (I feel as if justices was not severed and the officer got off free)
Opinion (I think the officer was acquitted by the jury to easily and should have been prosecuted more severely)
Connection (I had chosen this article because it was interesting for me to see more examples of police brutality on people and are wrongfully killed as a result)

Article Date:This article was published Thu December 4, 2014.
Who:This article involved the grand jury,Eric Garner and Daniel Pantaleo.
Where: This event was located somewhere in the United States.
When: This event has happened a couple months ago but it's still being disscused.
What happened:A officer named Daniel Pantaleo chocked and killed a black african american for no reason. Eric Garner wasn't bothering anyone and the police attacked and killed him, on top of that the grand jury annouced that the officer wouldn't be indicted. They had plan evidence that this man was killed for no reason and still no justice was served. A lot african americans are upset behind this, because it just seems that black people are not treated equal as everyone else and it just makes no sense.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because this problem has gotten worse over the pass year, and it needs to stop. African Americans are just as good as any other race so we should get the same respect.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) I just upset that racism still exist, to me it has gotten to the point where it's just annoying and corny. Nobody should have to go through this and if the shoe was on the other foot I bet you they wouldn't like it.
Opinion (I think..) I just think the people that are causing this, need to treat people like they would want to be treated because I guarentee they wouldn't like being treated like african americans.
Connection (why you chose this article) I can connect to this article because I'm african american.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title:Boehner vows to avoid government shutdown with help from Democrats
Article Date: December 4th, 2014
Who:Democrats
Where: Washington
When: December 4, 2014
What happened:There was many objections from republicans. A U.S. house spokesperson promised to put a bill that prevents a government shutdown. This is supposed to last until September 2015. Obams is going to allow millions of immigrants to come here. Republicans can then take care of immigrant related issues. Different states are trying to get involved in this. Many republicans are trying to get involved in this. There may be people helping to support this fund. As long as it isnt an explicit ban. On spending for Obamas immigration plan.
Why this event is relevant: This is relevant because it has to do with President Obama and that the government could effect the market.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) My reaction is that I am just flat shocked that this was even being attempted.
Opinion (I think..) I think these government shutdown threats were not neccesary at all.
Connection (why you chose this article) I choose this article because I had no idea that this government shutdown was being attempted to happen so it became interesting to me.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title:Protests erupt in wake of chokehold death decision
Article Date: Thursday December 4, 2014
Who: The people involved are protesters of New York.
Where: The event happened in New York.
When: The date this occurred was December 4th and December 3rd.
What happened: In July of 2014 a black man was slammed to the ground and choked by several police officers in Staten Island. The man name was Eric Garner. He repeatedly said "I can't breathe" while the police officers were still choking him. A trail sparked a conflict between different race communities. The officer that put Eric Garner in a choke hold was not indited. Only person that was indited was the person who recorded Eric slowly pass away from the police choking him. People from all over in New York and many other places protested by lying on the grand repeating "I can't breathe."
Why this event is relevant: This article is relevant because this is the second case this year when it was a black victim being killed by a white police officer. The case I am talking about is the Michael Brown case.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) I feel as though black people have no say or justice in our society nowadays. The reason why I say this is because police officer Deron Wilson was found innocent for killing unarmed teenager Michael Brown and the police officers that killed Eric Garner was also found innocent.
Opinion (I think..) I think people are doing the right way because that seems like the only way we will be heard. I don't think they should vandalize or damage property though, especially in there own community.
Connection (why you chose this article) I chose this article because it reminds me of the Michael Brown case which I said earlier how black people are not getting justice.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title: ‘Die-in’ protesters gather at City Hall prior to tree lighting ceremony.
Article Date: This article was written on Wednesday, December 3, 2014.
Who: Protesters in Philadelphia, and City officials.
Where: This event took place in Philadelphia.
When: This event took place on Wednesday, December 3, 2014.
What happened: Protesters began at 30th street station at approximately 4:15 pm. While there, protesters dropped to the ground and laid there for four and a half minutes simulating the four and a half hours that Michael Brown’s dead body laid on the ground. After doing so, protesters needed a way to amplify their voices, after all this was a non-violent protest. Protesters made it known that there was no justice served for either Michael Brown or Eric Garner. In order to show that there was no justice, protesters took their protest to another level. Protesters marched down to the tree lighting ceremony saying “hands up don’t shoot” and “no justice”. While at the tree lighting ceremony they wanted it to be known that no justice was served in both the Brown case or the Garner case. Similar events are now taking place across the country in order to raise awareness, that no justice was served.
Why this event is relevant: This event in relevant, because it shows that both Michael Brown and Eric Garner’s death will not go in vain. All over the country people are uniting and showing that no justice was served.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) Personally, I believe that this is the best thing I’ve heard all week. It’s not often that you hear about people coming together for all the same reasons. It’s sad that these are the circumstances on which we are uniting, but essentially this will bring us closer as a nation.
Opinion (I think..) I think more protest need to take place, because one protest honestly is not going to change anything. There needs to be multiple protests in order to show that the injustices that are taking place are not okay and there needs to be a change.
Connection (why you chose this article) I chose this article, because the verdict of both cases has angered me, and to see that as a nation people are actually rising up shows that we as not only a race, but a nation will no longer stand for the injustices of the society in which we live.

Article Title: The title of this article is " US chimpanzee Tommy 'has no human rights' - court" .
Article Date: This article was published and updated on December 4,2014.
Who: This article is about a Chimpanzee named Tommy.
Where: The event that this article talks about is happening in New York.
When: This event is currently still taking place in the court system.
What happened: A caged Chimpanzee named Tommy and his owner Lavery were told by the US court that Tommy does not have rights that are similar to humans because Tommy is not able to handle his own. But the animals rights people are fighting that champs are just as equal to humans because they show similar characteristics to us. They are arguing that it is not fair to keep champs caged up and take away their rights simply because they are animals and cannot speak up for themselves.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because Champs out of all other animals show the most human characteristics, so you the court system to just declare champs have no rights is ridiculous and unfair. We the people need to stop treating animals like they don't have a heart just like us.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes): My reaction towards this article and what it talks about is upsetting. My reaction/feeling was upsetting because its not fair for animals to not have any rights. Scientist use champs for almost everything and the court is telling champs that they are basically not important enough.
Opinion (I think..) I think chimpanzees and all other animals should have the same rights as humans. I think they should because if you think about it they are people too but just a very different kind in appearance. They have the same insides as humans .
Connection (why you chose this article): I chose this article because i found the title to be interesting. I used to think chimpanzees were the number one animal to get treated just as humans, so reading the title really caught me off guard. Im glad i chose to read and write about this article .

Article Title:
The title of this article is"Cop who shot 12 year old slammed in past jobs"

Who:This incident involves a police officer and a African American 12 year old.
Where:This incident took place in Cleveland,Ohio.
When:This event occurred in sometime early November:
What happened:A officer who was relieved from his job as a police officer for another district was fired because they described him as being emotional and a distraction to the community. With that being said this officer then was hired to work at a different district.A man was sitting in a park when he saw a boy pointing a gun at people so he called in concerned, and told the cop that a boy was pointing a gun at people but it looked to be fake.Soon the police officer got a call in from a dispatcher and explained to him in not very much detail that there was a boy who looked pointing a gun at people and she didn't at all explain to the cop that the gun may have been fake. The two cops later on pulled up to the scene and the 12 year old went up to them and the cop shot and killed him.
Why this event is relevant:This event is relevant because there has been a lot of police brutality which only seems to be targeted on African Americans.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes)
The cop that shot and killed him shouldn't have even if this young 12 year old boy looked to be as what he said "20 years old".The dispatcher especially did not play their role of relaying a message correctly,it was very important for him or her to say that this boy may have had a fake gun because that would have changed the story very much.
Opinion(I think..)
I think that this cop should be indicted and if he is not then this would be the 3rd person who was killed by a cop and it would definitely create a not so good situation.
Connection (why you chose this article)
I choose this article because when i saw the title of the story it was troubling to hear that just a 12 year old boy was shot and killed by a cop.

Why this event is relevant: This even is relevant , because it is a public embarrassment to our country.

Students laid down on the floor either holding signs, closing their eyes or just looking ahead. Four whole minutes as a way to show the four and a half whole hours Michael Brown wasn't touched. The students were trying to make a major statement for Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because this was a nation wide disturbance from the cases taken place last week.

Opinion (I think..) I think that more school should do this to make a bigger statement.
Connection (why you chose this article) I chose this article because I've seen how the police have treated people and being too forceful.
