Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) I feel indifferent about this situation. I do not pay for my health. I know I will in a couple of years.
Opinion (I think..) My opinion is they need to take both sides of this crazy mess. They need to put them both to gather and come as one. They live in United States and need to notice stop bickering. It will not be good for United States for the citizens who live here. They need to realize for the people who are on medicare. The people who have trouble getting healthcare.
Connection (why you chose this article) The reason is why I choose in the future I will need to pay health. I need to learn what the best health there is out today. I do not want to get stuck when I am older when choosing health care. I want to be informed.

Article Date: September 18,2013
Who: Marilyn Edge, Orange County Superior Court
Where: Orange County, California

What happened: A woman named Marilyn Edge, asked a judge could she get the death penalty for killing her 13 year - old and 9 year - old daughter in the middle of a custody dispute.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because she is owning up to her problems. She feels as though she should get killed for killing her kids.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) I think that she shouldn't get the death penalty because she should sit and think about what she did.
Opinion (I think..) I think she was not thinking about what she was doing because she wouldn't have killed her kids. I think her killing her kids was pointless because now she's hurt. I think she should sit and think about what she did. I think she feels really bad for killing her kids.
Connection (why you chose this article) I chose this article because I felt as though it was very interesting. I think you should know about the article.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title:Obama blames Republican 'ideological crusade' for shutdown
Article Date:October 1, 2013
Who: Republicans, President Barack Obama, Congress
Where: Washington D.C.
When: October 1, 2013
What happened: There is a budget crisis that was forced by Republicans to get rid of Obamacare. In result, a lot of annoyance came about from all over the country on the first day of government shutdown. The House proposal included a compromise, but Democrats turned down the package.
Why this event is relevant: This is relevant because there is no agreement between two parties. Federal government employees do not have a job as of now. It is almost if their job is on hold.
Reaction: This is terrible because people are loosing jobs. I don't think people should be treated this way because of a disagreement.
Opinion: I think Republicans and Democrats need to just get along for reasons that can make their country better.
Connection: I chose this article because it actually reminds me of back in the day where the blacks and the whites didn't get along. Actually, in this situation, two different parties are in a state where it seems like they don't like each other.

What happened: in this new article the posted a article of the same-sex. which was supporting same-sex marriages. not long after that it was made public on twitter. you had some that supported or did not support it.
Why this event is relevant: well ever since obama has been re-elected as president, you were allowed to marry the same sex. in united states you have people that does not mind if you marry the same-sex while others do.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) my feelings is that i don not really personally. it should not matter. plus you can not help who you fall in love with, which in this case it is the same-sex.
Opinion i think that they can do whatever they want to do regardless what your or others beliefs are. you are the same person just your other half has the same sex as you.
Connection i chose this article because i feel like a lot of people can relate to this. you should not judge a book by it cover . unfortunately we all do.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title: High drama on Capitol Hill as tempers flare, leaders meet with Obama
Article Date: Oct. 2, 2013
Who: President Obama, congressional leaders, representatives, democrats, republicans, white house
Where: Capitol Hill, Washington D.C.
When: Oct. 2, 2013
What happened: President Obama called a emergency meeting with congressional leaders over budget. Lawmakers were losing their temper, blaming and shouting at each other over bills and votes and what not. Some representatives were disgusted by each others' speeches and would say to reject their comments. Then, the House was considering mini-spending bills on different national institutions. The House will still continue to pass bills that would reflect on the American people. Democrats: however, vowed to reject it. Democrats believe that the Republicans' best way to address the House is by a standalone vote on a spending bill. That includes getting rid of Obamacare. At least 6% of workers in the EPA & DHUD are allowed are allowed to work during the impass, but 70%, under the control of James R. Clapper, are sent home. Then, there was a call for negotiations on the shutdown, healthcare. and other issues. Then, the NIH bill was passed, making the facilities turn away seriously ill patients, and no new enrollments were permitted in treatments.
Why this event is relevant: Because the shut down affects everyone.
Reaction: I'm surprised at the NIH bill. It made facilities turn down very sick patients and wouldn't do any other treatments on others. Like, that's messed up, Also, people getting released from their job, is just wrong. People with families are affected and causes more problems for everyone, not just the government.
Opinion: I think that if the negotiation would've went well and took a turn for the better, everyone would be happy. Open up the government or whatever, and in return they would solve the issues of the funding and such.
Connection: I chose this article because everyone is being affected and I worry about others being released from their jobs or having trouble getting jobs. Also, about the ill and national institutes.
Great post, Kashaan. This was very thorough and well done.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title: Obama, Lawmakers to meet on shutdown's 2nd day
Article Date: October 2nd, 2013
Who: The Government, President Obama, Republicans, Democratics
Where: Washington D,C.
When: October 2013
What Happened: President Obama said that he would urge for the House Republicans to pass a spending bill free of the health care dispute or other demands. Since both parties can't come to an agreement, Obama decided to have a government shutdown. President Barack Obama called for congressional leaders to the White House on the second day of a partial government shutdown that has left hundreds and thousands of workers and closed military cemeteries. Obama repeatedly said that he won't negotiate changes in the law in exchange for reopening the government.
Why Is This Relevant: Because the government effects us citizens in the United States. They have control over us and what happens to them, usually determines what happens to us.
Reaction: My first reaction was I never heard of a government shutdown so I thought this would have an negative effect on us. Now I'm hoping the president won;t let us down with this shutdown.
Opinion: I think the republicans are trying to very selfish. They are just worrying about their party and not really thinking about the other people in the US who are facing a struggle. Part of me says that shutting it down is wrong, but this might help the H.O.R to decide a vote.
Connection: I chose this article because, it kind of reminds me of the great depression. The reason why is because of the stock marketing crash and it makes me think on how what the government providing us, won't be able to provide for us.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title: Doctor Shortage, Increased demand could crash health care system
Article Date:This article was written Wednesday, October 2, 2013.
Who:Doctors and Physicians from Kentucky were involved in this article.
Where: This event took place in Lexington, Kentucky.
When: This article does not have specific date being it is speaking of the future.
What happened: Doctors are now speaking of what may happen to the doctor's office and hospitals. The doctors are saying because of ObamaCare and government shut down then some patients will have to wait to get care. Once people get approved for Obamacare hospitals and doctor's office will be really crowded meaning we will need more doctors and physicians.
Why this event is relevant: This is effecting everyone with or with insurance now because it will go into affect next year.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) I am happy because more people will be able to be cared for. I am upset because this means my visits probably will be shortened.
Opinion (I think..) I think this is great for people that do not have Health Insurance now.
Connection (why you chose this article)I choose this article because this is going to affect me also. I also started to think about my future and how this means that hospitals will need more doctors and I will be one of them they might need.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title: Attempt to Ram White House Gate Ends With Female Suspect Dead
Article Date: Oct. 3, 2013
Who: Everybody on Capitol Hill in them buildings and a 34 year old woman from Stamford, Conn.
Where: Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.
When: this happened October 3, 2013 in the afternoon after a meeting was being finished and people were leaving the buildings.
What happened? During the afternoon in Washington D.C. a woman fled past the gates in Capitol Hill fired shots. The woman is 34 years old and from Stamford, Connecticut with a history of mental health issues. The Capitol was put on lockdown and was commanded to go to their offices and stay far away from windows. At this point in the story, we can’t tell whether it was a terrorist issue or just someone being crazy.
Why this event is relevant: This is relevant because what if Obama was walking outside that day or something we would have lost our first black president to assassination.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) my attitude towards this is scary and upset because they need to find the person who did it because next time she might actually get somebody.
Opinion (I think...) I think this person will be over looked because she has mental health issues which isn’t fair. Also, I think this person is being affected by Obama Care or the government shutdown and wanted to fight against it.
Connection (why you chose this article) I chose this article because I think it was a reaction to the irrelevant shutdown and maybe it will help congress, the government and all those big people to get their acts together.

> Article Date: October 3, 2013
> Who: a woman, and a capitol officer
> Where: this occurred in Washington D.C near the capitol
> When: this event happened today around 2:35 pm
> What happened: it started when a woman in a black sedan with Connecticut plates tried to ram her car into the barrier near the white house, the police pursued her to a location near the capitol, she exited the vehicle and 5 or 6 shots were fired. they say they saw a child being taken from the car, they don't know the condition of the baby but they saw an officer carrying the child and hugging it.
> Why this event is relevant: this lady tried to run her car into the white house, maybe she was mad because of the temporary shut down but she tried to ram the barrier.
> Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) why did this lady have a baby in the car and try to run the car into the white house that's not even right she could have killed that baby, this isn't right what did she think ess going to happen did she think that would help get the lockdown lifted.
> Opinion (I think...) she should not have done this because now he child is motherless and they might have to grow up in foster homes and why we she so far from home with this baby.
> Connection (why you chose this article) I saw on t.v. a car chase like this and the people in the chase didn't die but they got locked up and they wished they didn't do it.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title: FOX NEWS POLL Voters support ObamaCare delay, oppose defunding
Article Date: Oct 3, 2013
Who: Obama and citizens
Where: Nationwide
When: Oct 3, 2013
What happened: In Washington, there is great debate because of how ObamaCare is set up. Republicans are trying to shut down ObamaCare or maybe just to delay it until Obama gives in. Fox conducted a poll and it shows how Americans feel about the partial government shut down. Some people think that they wont be affected by the government shutdown and others believe that it is a huge problem.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because the government shutdown is a huge problem for some people because they can lose their jobs and that gives a big increase in job unemployment. I chose this because it tells how this will affect people in the long run.
Reaction: My reaction to this was not big because as a teenager I did not worry much about it. My reaction to this was not much because I did not really understand it. So I didn't think much of it.
Opinion: My opinion of this is very clear. I think that this is totally unnecessary in the whole situation of it all. I don't get why people would want to take away health care for people. I think of it like put yourself in their shoes. You wouldn't want health care to cost so much money and you can't afford it.
Connection: My connection to ObamaCare and the poll is just when you take polls for anything else. I chose this article because I didn't understand how this worked and why people felt this way. Now I know how people feel about it and why they chose to believe what they believe.

Who: Federal Government,
Where: Calorado
When: Sept 29 2013
What happened: The Federal Government had got shut down. Nothing really happen. Everything was going on like usually, school was on session people was still going to work like they always do. The government have been bribed by the federal government by them giving them federal dollars. Obama stated that they we shouldn't even be in the federal government.
Why this event is relevant: This relevant because it show with out the federal government everything will stay the same and everything is going to keep going on like it was.
Reaction My action was surprise, because I thought that the money system would change but nothing change.
Opinion I think the should have federal government because there's no point and they are just adding taxes on people charge.
Connection My connection to the federal government that it really irrelevant and it's just there to be there and just like a box sitting on the side of the floor.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title:Obama signs bill guaranteeing active duty military pay in event of shutdown
Article Date: September 30, 2013
Who:President Obama, The Senate, the House, active-duty soilders
Where: The United States
When: Approx. Sept. 30, 2013 (Monday Morning)
What happened: Due to the government shutdown, on-duty U.S soldiers faced the potential threat of working with possible delayed pay. Fortunately, Senate Democrats decided to send a bid on a new bill which ensures almost all active-duty military personal the right to get paid even if theirs a shutdown. The bill was easily approved by the Senate and later signed by President Obama to make sure that the military receives money in any case.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because a lot of us have family and friends in the military and if they do not receive any income, it can create a lot of problems for many people especially because the government shutdown is already affecting so many people as is.
Reaction (describe your feelings or attitudes) My feelings are a little bit annoyed but yet understanding. I understand that the military personal still needs to get pain if they are being expected to work, especially U.S soldiers, but it just still shocks me that we are going into a shutdown because of how much debt we are in, yet they just signed a bill to give even more money to the military but didn't even think of creating a bill to help out educational services.
Opinion (I think..) I think that this whole government shutdown is ridiculous; the fact that we have to pass a bill for our military personal to get paid..that's just bazaar.
Connection (why you chose this article) I chose this article because I was stunned when I read the article, like I said before I still cant believe that we are in the process of a government shutdown, but we're still spending money on only the military.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title:Capitol Hill shooting halts debate over government shutdown
Article Date: Thu October 3, 2013
Who:U.S. Senate
Where:Washington D.C
When: Thu October 3, 2013
What happened:This article is about the efforts to resolve the government's budget crisis. which was put to a halt on Thursday due to gunfire out side the capital building forcing legislators to call off all transactions and find cover. This unexpected gunfire caused the Senate to go into a temporary lock down. Boehner came up with a compromise that he would allow debt ceiling vote that relies on Democrats to pass the law. Obama stops the reckless shutdown with would put millions of people on the unimplemented line.
Why this event is relevant:
Reaction: My first reaction to this article is that its about good time that they made a decision on a plan of action.
Opinion: My opinion is that this is an embarrassment to the United states and it should not have taken this long for the decision to be made.
Connection:My connection to this is that i have had to settle a conflict between to parties.

ReplyDeleteArticle Title:Obama adopts arm's-length strategy on government shutdown
Article Date: October 2, 2013
Who: The united states government and the president of the United States of America and the USA citizens
Where: Washington DC
When: October 1, 2013
What happened: The government is a standstill because of Obamacare. The Republicans do not want to keep Obamacare as health insurance for the citizens of the United States of America. The vote to keep Obamacare is split. The House speaker is getting the Tea-Party involved in the vote to keep Obamacare. And by the president not agreeing to shut down Obamacare that is one reason the government shutdown. The second reason is because of the Syria shooting of chemical bobs on their own citizens ad the US trying to go in. Another reason is because the US is in debt and if the price isn't raised we will not be able to pay our bills anymore. In order to raise it they have to edit something out of the 14 amendment in the constitution. The president refuses to take that out of the amendment. Which is why we are in a standstill and our government has shut down for two days now.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because threats have occurred on many occasions. However, the last government shut down happened 17 years ago. Which means this problem is truly going to be a problem for the government. Also, since the government has been fighting tooth and nail with the president about everything that he has tried to do this will take a while to solve.
