Article Title: Amanda Knox retrial over killing of Meredith Kercher begins in Italy
    Article Date: September 30, 2013

Amanda Knox's legal troubles continue to unfold to this very day. In 2007, Meredith Kercher was found murdered in an Italian villa that both her and Knox rented out together. Knox was sentenced to several years in prison, but a lack of evidence called for her release after just four years. She has returned to the public eye after the Italian Supreme Court called for a retrial against her. Devoid of all of these circumstances for several months, Knox has been taken aback by this retrial, and actually refused to appear in court in fear of returning to prison. Unfortunately, this fate may come back to haunt her.

I personally feel as though Knox did not commit this crime. From a legal standpoint, this is technically double jeopardy, being tried for the same case. But, from my own review of the evidence, Knox did not commit this murder. She was NOT in the villa at the time of the murder, so it's not logical that she could've committed it. Another factor to consider that Knox is going to great lengths to prove her innocence, lengths that an actual murderer would not go to. She has requested a lie detector test instead of a trial, and these tests tend to be accurate. Knox is not responsible for this, and a retrial should not be done.

Article Title : House weighs new ObamaCare delay, Obama hopes for 11th hour solution
    Article Date : September 30,2013
Who : President Barrack Obama is trying to avoid the government shutdown.
When : The government has been planning this government shutdown for months now but if they cannot come up with a solution by midnight tonight the government will shutdown starting October 1.
Where : This occurs at the White House in Washington D.C.
What happened : The White House is shutting down because both Democratic and Republican parties cannot agree on the solution. Democrats have already labeled this a "Republican government shutdown."
Why relevant : this is relevant because people will be out of a job if the government shuts down. All Americans will be affected to the shutdown because the government plays an important role.
Opinion :I think the government should not have to shut down. I think that both parties could come up with a solution before going to the extreme.
Reaction : I feel bad for Obama because he has to go through a lot of stress. He has a lot of people in his ear telling him what to do and what decisions to make. Obama does not want to shut the gvt. Down but the republicans want to.
Connection : I can relate to this because when the school district was having difficulties they were about to shutdown but instead they just shut down a lot of schools.they had to find a decision what to do with the money: give it to the school or build more prisons. Sadly, they built more prisons.

Article title: Obama blames Republican 'ideological crusade' for shutdown
Article date: Tuesday October 1, 2013
Who: President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Sen. Ted Cruz, Amy Brundage, John Boehner, Sen. Dick Durbin, Sen. John McCain, Rep. Darrell Issa, Rep. Todd Rokita, Rep. Peter King, Jay Carney
    Where: Washington
    When: Tuesday October 1, 2013
What happened: the congress has decided to shut down the government. They are doing this because Obama doesn’t want to end his Obama care program that he has started to help many Americans in need of financial care. This has started a very big revolution in many places all over the world and many people in congress are debating what should be done about the decision to shut down the government.
Why relevant: this is relevant because many Americans in the world depend on Obama care and the congress feels that it is a waste of time and money that the government is wasting. Another reason why this is relevant is because many Americans are going to be affected by this shut down
Reaction: my reaction to the shutdown of the government I feel that it was unnecessary. I think the government could have handled there problems like adults and not like little kids.
Opinion: in my opinion the government and he congress need to have a very serious conversation. Also I feel they should have somebody outside that knows nothing about the event, come in and be the mediator and try to get them to compromise without taking away Obama care.
Connection: this all reminds me of when kids in school don’t get along or teachers and students always bump heads. We send them to mediation where someone who knows nothing of their problem besides the fact that they have a problem. So their neutral and they listen to both sides and a compromise is made where the students or teachers have to find a way to get along and act like adults and or young adults.

  4. Article Title:73 rescued from Mexican house

Article Date: Tue October 1, 2013

Who: 37 Mexicans, 19 Hondurans, 14 Guatemalans, and three Salvadorans

    Where: In Latin America

    When: In June

What happened: When the victims were going north to come to enter the united states on buses and while they were waiting to get on the bus. They were kidnapped by a group of men. Even adults and little kids were kidnapped and held hostage in the border city of Reynosa..

Why this event is relevant: This is relevant because I wouldn't want any of my family members getting kidnapped and held hostage .

Opinion : I think that people should just watch their backs and learn how to defend themselves so if someone do try and kidnapped you then they'll have something else coming at them.

Reaction : I was shocked to hear this information.

Connection - I could connect to this current event because everyday I see on the news or a paper up on a tree saying that someone child had been kidnapped. im sick of seeing that because I know that I wouldn't want anything to happen to anyone I love so I wouldn't want anyone else to be kidnapped either.

Article Title: Herman Wallace released after 40 years in solitary

    Article Date: October 1st 2013

    Who: Herman Wallace

    Where: Louisiana

    When: Article Doesn't State

What happened: This article is about a man named Herman Wallace, 1 of 3 men convicted of the 1972 murder of a prison guard, that is being freed because his judge says that his conviction was unconstitutional. He was initially in jail for robbery before convicted of murder case. One of the men was let free in 2001, but Wallace and the other was left imprisoned and isolated in tiny jail cells and only allowed out the cell for one hour a day.

The Judge ruled that his conviction was unconstitutional because women were barred from serving on his jury, which was a violation of Wallace's right to a fair trial. He said that the jury was improperly chosen and that the Louisiana courts where given the option to correct that error and didn't do it. Tessa Murphy of Amnesty International said that it was about time that they acknowledged the unfairness of his case but it's sadly to late because Wallace have developed cancer. Wallace has only a few weeks to live.

Why this event is relevant: This is relevant because this has to do with injustice.

Reaction: This is really just sad.

Opinion: I think that something should be done to the Louisiana courts.

Connection: I chose this because it was on the main page of the website.

    Article Date: September 30 , 2013
    Who: The Justice Department.
    Where: North Carolina.
    When: This year .
What happened: The Justice Department filed a lawsuit trying to change a new North Carolina voting law. The new voting law includes people are required to bring their photo I.D. to cast votes. Other voting laws have been seen by courts and other states had lawsuits against them because of voting changes.
Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because it effects people who don't have photo I.D. and a lot of people don't have I.D to vote.
Reaction : I find this surprising because this might hold a lot of people back from voting.
Opinion : I think that North Carolina should not pass the voting law changes because it could affect a lot of people.
Connection I chose this article because I know some people who could be affected.

Opinion:I think people should be more careful of their surrounding, and of the people they associate with.

Article Title: What happens at the White House when the government shuts down?
Article Date: This article took place on September 30th, 2013.
Who: The Government Offices are in involved in this event
When: This event began on Tuesday October 1, 2013 12:01 AM
What happened: Many office workers from the White House to the Office of national Drug Control are being told to stay home during the government shut down.
Why is this relevant: This is relevant because those offices are being runned by small groups of selected representatives.
Reaction: It seems like the government knows what they are doing, but how will this play out. Are we vulnerable to an attack, or is it like the Stock Market Crash and some people will lose there job?
Opinion: I don’t know if this will affect me directly, or the government will be back up and running without me knowing it. If no one had told me this I wouldn’t have even known we were without a government. No one seems directly affected by this shutdown, they’re just going to work like any other day.
Connection: This event makes me think of the academic office shutting down in Freire, and only 2 people are there, paper work would be a nightmare. The lower and upper grades would be affected because of all the paperwork they need to get into the school and to get out of the school.

Reaction: My reaction is a little happy because they finally made a decision about what to do with Syria bomb attack. I'm also a little concern because what if that don't work and they try to get someone to bomb the U.S . For example"There is every reason to believe we are on the right track"(Putin 10). This means that they are on the right track about the decision they made.
Opinion: My opinion is that it is great that they came up with a decision but this decision can be good or bad.
Connection: I choose this article because I wanted to know about the U.S decision on the Syria attack.

Article Title: US shutdown: Barack Obama cancels Asia trip
Article Date: This article was written October 4th 2013
    Who: President Barack Obama

Where: Summit held in Eastern Asian Country, Indonesia.

When: Friday Morning but , mainly the events leading up to this occurred all last week

What happened: President Barack Obama had to cancel his trip to the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec) meeting in Indonesia. The cancellation of this trip was caused due to the fact that the House of Republicans caused a government shutdown. Instead secretary of state John Kerry will attend the meeting in place of President Obama. This trip became non essential because of the debt the United States is facing, and the failure for the House of Reps and Senators to come up with a plan.

Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because our congress failure to come up with a plan is setting back our ability to create jobs. Using the Unites States exports and ability to emerge with the largest region of the world. It is also relevant because it shows how having debt could ruin plans.

Reaction : I feel as though the House of Republicans are not really being affects , only the United States citizens are . Thats why they are not fighting as hard and as diligently as they could. This article also makes me feel like my word doesn't matter because as one can see the Government controls everything and my individual word will not sway anyones opinion. I also feel as though President Obama is working hard and maintaining his composure well in a time like this.

Opinion : I think President Obama will receive information about the summit , but it will not be as clear because he was not in direct contact with the meeting. I also think that our debt will continue to rising eventually weakening our economic ties with other countries.

Connection : I chose this article because it said the president canceled his trip . Him canceling trips sounds strange because he is the president so I knew it had to be something crucial effecting him from traveling. This article reminds me of a time I couldn't go to my friend house because my house wasn't clean. Just like President Obama couldn't leave his country to go to another on , when his country is in need of cleaning up.

  19. Article Title:Federal workers prepare for shutdown process

    Article Date:Posted: Sep 30, 2013

    Who:The U.S. Government

    Where:WASHINGTON, D.C

    When:2012-2013

What happened:The government is shutting down on Tuesday October 1,2013 because of a lack of funding for Obama care.

Why this event is relevant: This event is relevant because not everyone in the U.S. has health insurance. With Obama care everyone will have health insurance even in the worst times they will have it because it will be affordable.Republicans are saying no to the new healthcare reform and that it will cost to much. So now the government will shut down until they come up with a agree.

Reaction: I feel as though that Obama is doing the right thing with this healthcare reform because U.S. citizens die everyday only because they don't have health insurance or the money to go and get checked to see what is wrong with them.It effects everyone people are not going to get paid on time, monthly checks are delayed some people rely on those checks to get them through the month. Babies won't be able to get milk or food because social security, SNAP and WIC are being shutdown also.It also effects peoples jobs because they're not getting payed on time, museums are shut down, national parks, and if you was waiting on a passport keep waiting... they're delayed too.

Opinion: I think it's unfair and that they're should have been a voting on whether the government should be shut down or not. Many americans rely on these programs daily that are being delayed. So I just see it as unfair to all americans.

Connection: I chose this article because when the government is shutdown Tuesday, us americans have nothing to rely on unless they have a well paying job that will not effect them as much because they don't rely on most of these programs being shutdown, most people are already living in poverty today anyway.
